About Us

Winnall Rock School – Making Music, Changing Lives.

Founded in 2004, we are a charity based at Unit 12 in Winchester for young people of all abilities to access exciting music-making experiences. We have a strong focus on supporting mental health and personal wellbeing.

Our main service is our regular free music workshops, support and challenges for 10-17 year olds from all backgrounds and abilities. We give places to anyone wanting to pursue their musical ambitions, although priority is given to those who find it difficult for financial, educational, social or emotional reasons to access commercial provision or need other support.

We also run short-term projects and welcome partnerships to support access to local cultural opportunities.

From grassroots origins to international audiences, we produce high-quality dance projects, develop artistic careers and improve wellbeing for our participants. Our medium is the classical Indian dance of Odissi. Originating from the Bay of Bengal over two thousand years ago, Odissi deals with contemporary and classical themes that remain just as relevant in storytelling today. Its narratives are researched and presented to audiences as both movements and rasas, representing emotions of real life experiences such as love, devotion, anger and playfulness. Our dancers and artists deliver renowned workshops and performances that bring Odissi to thousands of new audience members every year.

We are a Community Interest Company producing creative wellbeing projects for young people, because we know that life can get messy. This includes one-off projects, ongoing collaborations and commissions with arts, youth and health partners, mentoring for over 16s, and weekly dance and sensory play classes for under 5s and their grown-ups. We raise funds to deliver specialist projects which support young people living with adverse childhood experiences, and to reduce social isolation for Parents/Carers supporting vulnerable young people. We work collaboratively with other sectors so that work can continue to support young people through the arts after our projects have finished. We work across Dorset and Hampshire.
