Stacie Bates, Assembled Moments
After over a decade working as an actress in London, playwright, theatre maker and educator Stacie Bates returned home to the New Forest, to raise her family and begin teaching drama in schools and youth theatres. During lockdown, she reflected on her creative path, completed a Masters in Theatre at Guildford School of Acting, and went on to found her company, Assembled Moments.
Stacie’s background in physical and immersive theatre, combined with a passion for new writing, inspired her to bring high-quality, accessible theatre to her local community. Together with producer Katie Spencer, she launched Assembled Moments to address the lack of opportunities for theatre makers in the area. Their debut production, Future First – an eco-play exploring climate hope – was created with local teenagers and premiered at Forest Arts Centre in 2024.
Alongside this, Stacie joined ArtfulScribe’s writers’ group and was later commissioned to create the audio play Before Alice, released in 2025.
These projects were made possible through support from Culture in Common, New Forest Council, ArtfulScribe and Arts Council England.
Her latest project, a reimagining of Jane Eyre, has been supported by Hampshire Cultural Trust, Dorset Scriptwriters and venues including The Lighthouse and Forest Arts. Through workshops, mentorship and residencies, these organisations have provided the space and structure for Stacie to develop as both a writer and director.
Looking ahead, Stacie plans to expand Assembled Moments’ impact through new collaborative work and opportunities for local talent. Fittingly, she’ll soon lead a writing workshop at the next Play on Words Festival at Forest Arts – the very event that first inspired her to start her company.
