Mark Drury

Executive Director

SPUD

Mark Drury is the Executive Director of SPUD, an arts and architecture charity based in Sway, in the New Forest. He works at the intersection of art, architecture and placemaking, leading the creation of award-winning buildings and community-focused projects that foster dialogue, creativity and lasting impact.

Mark is passionate about empowering people – especially young people – to engage meaningfully with their environment. By involving them from the outset, he demonstrates how active participation shapes stronger community ownership and significantly enhances project outcomes. Drawing on real-life case studies, Mark showcases the transformative potential of placing youth and local voices at the heart of design and decision-making.

His work is rooted in the belief that art and architecture are powerful tools for exploration, understanding, and social cohesion. Well-being, inclusivity and environmental awareness are embedded in every project he leads, driving both sustainability and long-term community benefit.

Mark was previously Creative Director at the Solent Centre for Architecture and Design (the regional architecture centre) for seven years and prior to that has created and run a number of commercial businesses and was Head of Art in two secondary schools.
