Creative Ground Commissions

A Creative Ground Commission supports learning, experimentation, and creative growth. It’s not about delivering large‑scale production or projects, instead we invite proposals that test ideas, build skills, explore new ways of working, strengthen local creative relationships, and respond to specific communities or places.

No. We are commissioning artists and creatives to deliver a defined piece of development‑focused activity that contributes to Culture Connects’ aims around cultural development and place‑based work.

Commissions of up to £3,000 are available. Commissions can support fees, research and development, training, materials, essential equipment and travel. It can also be used for match-funding other grant applications where appropriate; see full guidance. We anticipate proposals anywhere from £200 - £3000. Personal Access Costs can be requested in addition.

Artists and creatives who are living, working or making work in the New Forest, Rushmoor or Gosport, or whose proposal is clearly rooted in one of these places. You can apply as an individual, freelancer, collective, or small organisation. By Creative we mean anyone working in the cultural sector, include Heritage professionals.

No. This commission can support early‑stage ideas and development alongside final ideas.

Not always. Some ideas will benefit from a confirmed partner; others may not. If partnerships are still in development, you can describe your intention and approach rather than having everything confirmed at the point of submission.

This might include community projects, research and development, creative experimentation, training, pilot activity, residencies, relationship‑building, or sector‑facing activity. Projects can be public‑facing, sector‑facing, or both.

Yes. We welcome conversations about access and support. This might include alternative formats, Easy Read guidance, or adjustments to the application process. Please contact us in advance of the deadline so we can discuss this with you. Access needs will not affect how your application is assessed. No, but we encourage it. These conversations are supportive and developmental, not part of the assessment, and don’t guarantee funding. They’re simply a chance to talk through ideas and ask questions.
